Former Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office employee arrested for allegedly soliciting child sexual abuse material, officials say
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 34-year-old Ponchatoula man who worked for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office was arrested Friday (Nov. 6) and is accused of 12 felony counts, including counts of child sexual abuse materials, Louisiana State Police and Homeland Security Investigations said. The sheriff’s office said it terminated his employment.
Gavin Lyvers was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. The case is still under investigation.
The arrest warrant accuses Lyvers of two counts of child sexual abuse materials, five counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and five counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor.
State police and Homeland Security Investigations, also called HSI, began working together on the case in September 2026. They were looking into a person believed to have child sexual abuse material.
The case started when HSI received a tip about someone uploading or downloading child sexual abuse material on a social media platform. The account belonged to Lyvers, who was in Louisiana. State police then joined the case.
Investigators said they found that Lyvers was using the platform to talk with minors. They also said he asked for child sexual abuse material in exchange for items worth money.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said state police told it earlier Nov. 6 that they had an active arrest warrant for Lyvers for crimes committed in Tangipahoa Parish.
The sheriff’s office said it helped state police take Lyvers into custody and that his employment was terminated. It said he worked there for 14 years.
The sheriff’s office said state police are leading the investigation.
