Union Academy holds on for 19-14 win over Patton in first round of NCHSAA 3A state playoffs

MONROE, N.C. (WBTV) - There’s no such thing as an ugly win in the state playoffs.

Union Academy entered the locker room trailing 1-9 Patton 14-13, but the Cardinals found a way to come back and hold the Panthers scoreless in the second half to pull out a 19-14 win and advance in the NCHSAA 3A bracket.

It’s the second-straight season with a playoff win for Union Academy after the program failed to win a postseason game from 2018-2024.

Next up, the Cardinals will travel to Mount Airy for the second round on Nov. 13.
