ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Lillie Kolich won a live-show spot on “The Voice” after her cut week performance of “Friday I’m in Love.”

Kolich says she took a risk with The Cure song during cut week and earned a place in the live shows with her own version of it.

“I know that on paper I’m not like the strongest vocalist on the show, so I’m kind of taking the approach of like leaning into like my uniqueness. So I was like, what’s something I can do that’s pretty outside of the box?” said Lillie Kolich.

She said the arrangement took work and left her nervous because many people may not have known the song or her version of it.

“It was a lot of trial and error, but in the end, I guess it worked out,” said Kolich. “But I was very nervous about that choice for sure, because I think you know there were a lot of people who probably didn’t know that song, and then they especially didn’t know the arrangement of that song that I was doing.”

Kolich kept her spot on Queen Latifah’s team and said one off-camera moment showed how surprised she felt.

“I actually had a funny moment. It wasn’t on camera, but like I walked up to Queen and I was like, ‘Are you sure? Like, do you do you mean did you mean to pick me?'” said Kolich. “And she was like, ‘yes.’ And I was like, ‘OK.’ And I was so excited, but then I was like, obviously very overwhelmed with emotions. Like, I spent so much time with with my team, and they’re all incredible.”

Kolich now heads into the live shows and said the first week’s theme is Y2K.

“The theme for the first week is Y 2k, which is actually really fun. So we’re seeing all like throwbacks kind of from my childhood. So it’ll be really fun,” said Kolich.

She also said she plans another major change for her next song.

“The next song that I’m singing is a very big hit song, and I’m once again changing the arrangement, making it my own,” said Kolich. “This one will probably be the most different, um, as far as like my lane. Like this one’s a little bit of a bigger song for me.”

Kolich will sing live on “The Voice” Monday at 8 p.m. KOB 4 says viewers will decide what happens next, with live voting by text message or TikTok.
