Man arrested in connection with fatal Waikiki assault

A 44-year-old man was arrested today in connection with the death of a 67-year-old man who was found injured in Waikiki last month, police said.

The victim was found injured on Saratoga Road at about 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 and taken to a hospital, according to the Honolulu Police Department. Police initially investigated the incident as an assault.

On Oct. 29, the Medical Examiner’s Office notified police that the victim had died from injuries sustained in the assault, prompting homicide detectives to take over the investigation, HPD said.

The suspect was arrested shortly after 11:30 a.m. today in the 2200 block of Kalakaua Avenue on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The case will be forwarded to the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney for review and possible charges, police said.
