HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- If you’re relieved the election is over, it turns out it's not quite done for Harris County.
While the Senate and gubernatorial races got most of the attention this election season, two spots on the Harris County Appraisal District board are headed to a runoff.
The organization, which appraises property for tax purposes, said two of its three races will be on a runoff ballot on Dec. 12.
HCAD explained it expects the runoff to cost $4 million or more depending on the number of polling locations needed.
ABC13's news partners at the Houston Chronicle project it could be up to $11 million, or $230 per voter, using turnout figures from the 2024 runoff election.
As for the races, HCAD Place 2 comes down to Claudio Guiterrez and Jourdyn Wilson, and HCAD Place 3 will see a matchup between Ericka McCrutcheon and Jesus Nieto.
The Harris County Clerk's Office said these are the only races on that December runoff ballot.
Based on unofficial results, Beverly Barrett received a majority of the votes cast for HCAD Place 1, winning against Kathy Blueford Daniels, according to HCAD's website.
