82-year-old man dies after getting hit by his own car

SAINT STEPHEN, S.C. (WCSC/Gray News) — An 82-year-old man in South Carolina was hit and killed by his own car in an apparent mishap, according to authorities.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office reported that Gilbert King, of St. Stephen, died Thursday afternoon.

Coroner Darnell Hartwell said King accidentally put his car in reverse instead of putting it in park before getting out of the car.

As he got out, King was hit by the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

The coroner and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
