California driver arrested on DUI charges after hitting man near downtown Las Vegas
A 29-year-old Las Vegas man is facing life-threatening injuries after he was hit near downtown and the Arts District by a California driver who was arrested on DUI charges Friday morning, police said.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release Saturday that a vehicle versus pedestrian collision occurred just before 5 a.m. on South Las Vegas Boulevard south of South Fourth Street.
The 29-year-old pedestrian was standing at a crosswalk when a 2013 Mercedes E-350, driven by Robert Bush, 68, of Laguna Hills, California, ran off the roadway onto the sidewalk and struck the pedestrian, the release said. Metro said the vehicle continued along the sidewalk and collided with a palm tree before rotating clockwise and coming to rest on the roadway and sidewalk.
The pedestrian was transported to UMC Trauma where he was admitted for ongoing lifesaving care, according to Metro. Bush was also transported to UMC Trauma for moderate injuries, Metro said, adding that officers conducted an impaired driver investigation and determined he showed signs of impairment.
Bush was booked into Clark County Detention Center on DUI charges, according to the release.
The collision remains under investigation.
