HPD arrests suspect in death of Aiea robbery victim

Honolulu police officers have arrested a 29-year-old suspect wanted in the death of 47-year-old man at the Pearl Kai Shopping Center on Wednesday.

Police said at about 8:50 p.m., the suspect approached the victim outside a Baskin-Robbins shop, began arguing with him, took his backpack, and fled on foot.

The victim collapsed and became unresponsive, according to the Honolulu Police Department. Emergency Medical Services personnel treated the man and took him to a hospital, where he later died.

On Friday evening, HPD released surveillance images of the wanted man. Just before 1:30 p.m. today, Crime Reduction Unit officers arrested him for suspicion of manslaughter and first-degree robbery.
