ALBUQERQUE, N.M. — The one-seeded Hope Christian girls soccer team defeated two-seeded St. Pius X, 8-0, to capture their sixth straight Class 4A State Championship.
Hope Christian finished with a perfect 24-0 record. This is the third time in the last six years they have finished with a perfect record.
The Huskies were so dominant this season that they outscored their opponents 161-2.
Sophomore forward Brooklyn Fankam scored a hat trick for the Huskies. Junior midfielder Nikki Dountas scored two goals, both which were off corner kicks and both were headers.
“We’re so grateful to be here. We’re so blessed to be here, it’s just so much fun”, said Fankam.
Sophomore midfielder Mechi Garbarino, freshman midfielder Audrey Stockton and eighth grade forward Brooklyn Sanchez all scored a goal as well in the victory.
This was the sixth state title for head coach Amy Fankam who said it’s a surreal feeling anytime you can win a state title.
“I’d just describe it as surreal right? To have these players out here to be able to do what we did, it’s just fantastic”, said Fankam.
