UNLV comeback falls short in loss to Wyoming

No wonder the betting line moved so much in the favor of Wyoming football this week.

The Cowboys on Saturday night made those who wagered with them look smart, beating UNLV 41-35 at Allegiant Stadium.

Wyoming led the game 41-21 with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter.

But the Rebels rallied behind backup quarterback Alex Orji, who led UNLV on consecutive touchdown drives to bring coach Dan Mullen’s team within six points.

Orji, however, was intercepted in the end zone with 1:51 remaining in the game, ending UNLV’s pursuit of what would have been a classic comeback.

The loss drops UNLV to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain West, no longer in control of its destiny when it comes to playing for a conference title. Wyoming improves to 6-3 and 5-1.

A line that opened at UNLV minus-7 moved all the way to -3½ at kickoff.

UNLV next travels to first-place New Mexico on Nov. 14.
