New economic strategy aims to grow innovation and workforce talent in metro Atlanta county

Partnership Gwinnett unveiled its 5.0 strategic campaign on Friday during an event at The Water Tower in Buford.

The five-year strategy outlines economic development goals designed to guide the public-private organization’s operations from 2027 through 2031.

The plan centers on four interconnected priorities intended to support local businesses and residents. These goals include growing the innovation economy, amplifying Gwinnett’s brand, cultivating vibrant communities and aligning education with workforce talent needs.

According to Partnership Gwinnett, its efforts across four consecutive five-year frameworks have helped generate more than 39,000 jobs and secure $7.5 billion in capital investment for the county.

Organization officials designed the framework to address shifting industry requirements, global market competition and evolving workforce demands.

The strategy also builds upon the group’s designation as an Accredited Economic Development Organization.

Under the first priority of growing the innovation economy, the organization aims to expand business growth, create quality jobs and broaden economic opportunities. The second goal of amplifying Gwinnett’s brand focuses on attracting outside investment and raising awareness of the county.

The third priority, cultivating place, focuses on creating communities where companies and residents can thrive through local development strategies. The fourth pillar connects educational institutions with employers to build a prepared talent pipeline.

Kevin Carmichael, senior vice president of economic development for Partnership Gwinnett, said during the launch program that remaining regionally competitive required a lot of collaboration.

“Gwinnett’s success shows what’s possible when public and private partners invest in a shared vision,” Carmichael said. “With 5.0, we’re building on that proven approach to meet new market demands and keep Gwinnett competitive. The support we secure today will help turn our next five years of opportunity into results.”

Alyssa Davis, board chair for Partnership Gwinnett and executive director of Sugarloaf CID, said the ways regional business environments can impact corporate performance shouldn’t be ignored.

“Businesses have a direct stake in the strength of the community around them,” Davis said. “Access to talent, vibrant business districts and a strong reputation all influence a company’s ability to succeed. Investing in Partnership Gwinnett 5.0 gives businesses a way to help shape those conditions and build a stronger economic future for Gwinnett.”

Partnership Gwinnett will convene and coordinate the outreach, research, marketing and institutional partnerships needed to implement the strategy through 2031.
