Ascension St. Vincent’s plans primary care expansions in Aberdeen, Nocatee and Fruit Cove

This week, Ascension St. Vincent’s announced that it is expanding primary care services across St. Johns County, with three new clinic locations in Aberdeen, Nocatee and Fruit Cove.

The expansion comes as St. Johns County experiences rapid population growth. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county’s population grew by nearly 27% between 2020 and 2025, driving an increased need for primary medical care.

The project also addresses wider state and local health priorities. Physician workforce reporting from the Florida Department of Health shows that 66 of Florida’s 67 counties face primary care shortages in at least some areas.

Locally, St. Johns County’s 2024 Community Health Assessment identified health care access as a priority for improving overall health.

The new clinics will provide routine wellness examinations, preventive screenings, treatment for common illnesses and chronic disease management. Patients will also receive coordinated access to Ascension St. Vincent’s broader network of specialists throughout Northeast Florida.

The Aberdeen facility is scheduled to open in December 2026. The Nocatee clinic is slated for a winter 2027 opening, while the Fruit Cove location is planned to open in 2027.

Sean McAfee, president and CEO of Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County, highlighted the need to expand health care services to keep pace with area growth. “As more families choose to call St. Johns County home, access to health care must grow alongside our community,” McAfee said.

The health system opened a primary care clinic in Murabella in January 2026 and recently expanded its local cardiovascular and neuro-oncology services.

Additionally, the new Family Birth Place at Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns Hospital is scheduled to open in summer 2027, expanding access to maternity and neonatal care for local families.
