Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens announces birth of baby bonobo
The Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens announced its newest arrival Wednesday! One of the zoo’s bonobos, Kimia, gave birth to a healthy baby.
Kimia gave birth just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, the zoo said.
Both mother and baby are doing well so far, and the zoo’s Animal Care team is monitoring their progress while giving them time to settle in.
The zoo said visitors may be able to see Kimia and her infant in her habitat. Kimia has access to indoor and outdoor spaces and can choose where she and her baby spend their time.
The infant’s sex has not yet been determined.
